STAR LACROSSE 2012 _ San Antonio’s YOUTH LEAGUE
1 _ FORMAT BY AGE GROUP
Grades 1 thru 3 BASIC SKILLS EMPHASIS U9 YOUTH
6 man games; 10 min running quarters; no goalies (use of “hector the rejector” canvas covers); 15 seconds to get ball from defensive end to offensive end; field ½ the size of regulation field; no body checks; no Long Poles; otherwise same rules as NCAA; all games played at one central location every weekend
Grades 4 & 5 Intro to Full Game Mechanics U11 HAMMER LEAGUE
10 man games; 10 min running quarters; Goalies in place; Referee calling all normal calls; Body Checks allowed; No Unnecessary Roughness or Excessive Force; Stick Checks must be stick to stick; Normal Field Size and Striping; 5 game season; Potential multi location schedule; US Lacrosse youth rules
2_ TEAMS & PLAYERS
YOUTH 10 boys per team max – EMPHASIS on playing time for all & Basics ; league will provide game day playing field marked and ready to go, referees, goals for game days, balls for game days, balls to teams for practices; each team to have its own name and colour ( i.e. TEAM NAMES – Baracudas, Scorpions, Mules, Rangers, Raiders, etc.) Teams to be selected to maximize competition and emphasize sportsmanship and learning the game of lacrosse.
HAMMER LEAGUE 24 boys per team max – EMPHASIS on full field mechanics; league will provide game day playing field marked and ready to go, referees, goals for game days, balls for game days, balls to teams for practices; each team to have its own name and colour ( i.e. TEAM NAMES – Baracudas, Scorpions, Mules, Rangers, Raiders, etc.) Teams to be selected to maximize competition and emphasize sportsmanship and learning the game of lacrosse.
3_ COACHES & Referees
DADS / Volunteers; all must attend league coaching clinic 2/19/2012 @ 3p, sign agreement to league code of conduct, and pass the level one USLACROSSE coaching certification testing prior to the first games of the season. We will use High School players from the area for refereeing the games.
4_ REGISTRATION_ UNIFORMS
League Dues of $75 per player for grades 1 thru 3 and $100 per player for grades 4 & 5 – all players get reversible jerseys with league logo – each team a different colour; all players must be members of US Lacrosse
5_ PRACTICES
No more than twice per week – week defined as monday thru Friday – starting Feb 1 thru April 30
6_SEASON _GAME DAYS
Teams selected based on registration in February; Practices start late February / beginning of March ; Season Games start March 25 and end May 6 ( 6 weeks of games )
